“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” While my mom didn’t change the world, she was certainly determined to provide me with a better educational opportunity. Our relatives called her crazy; after all, who even dares to travel across the world permanently to a place where you know nothing and no one? But here we are now: My mom is graduating from college, and I’m graduating from high school. We took a risk in pursuit of education, took advantage of new opportunities, and took time to cherish everything along the way, no matter how good or bad. My time at Advanced Technologies Academy was filled with growth and self-discovery. I joined and led clubs such as Science Olympiad and Technology Student Association, learning alongside brilliant peers and guiding new minds. Additionally, I played viola in the Young Artists Orchestra, which furthered my musical education and inspired my passion for music. In the fall, I will be attending Cornell University to study cognitive science to understand the brain and, thus, ourselves and each other. I am grateful to the LinYL Foundation for supporting my journey and making education more affordable. We only live once, so dance in the tango of known and unknown as we find the Yin and Yang within.

Hello, I am Mei Aguon, and I am attending the University of Nevada, Reno to study environmental science. As a child who both loved to draw and loved life sciences, I didn’t know it was possible to do both at the same time. Now I realize there are abundant opportunities for people with a variety of passions. I would like to make a difference in people’s quality of life by listening to their issues regarding the environment. I would also like to keep drawing and growing my skills. Thank you LinYL Foundation!
