Administration/Biology

As an immigrant from the Philippines, I understood at an early age that education played a crucial role in one’s success. I am an only child with an immense passion of learning languages, arts, and entrepreneurship. Throughout high school, I was actively involved in various commitments such as Leaders in Training (LIT), being the captain of the Vikettes (Valley High School’s Pom Dance Team), and running my own business at the age of 16! I attended the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program and it shaped my love of education greatly. Every hardship I encountered, I was able to seek guidance and support from my parents, as well as my 5-year old Doberman, Hari. Without my family’s endless love, support, and encouragement, I would never reach the successes I have reached in my life. The LinYL Foundation’s mission to honor their mother’s legacy and to emphasize the importance of education resonates deeply with my personal values. Their generous scholarship will help me greatly as I pursue a better education as I enter college. I plan to utilize my education to achieve new goals so that I may come back to my community to help the next generation of future leaders. Education is not the only key to success, hard-work and discipline is too! So start working now because you owe it to yourself to do everything you’ve ever dreamed of!

I wanted to pursue my education because my mother always insisted the importance of education because “no one can take your education from you.” Much like Lin Lang encouraged her children to do well in school so they could have better opportunities. I find that education is an opportunity for more opportunities, for the more I understand the more I can do, and the more I can help others.

I am an innovative change-maker working at the intersection of technology and design. From sports to entertainment to biotechnology, I am passionate about visual communication between companies, CEOs, scientists, and the general public. I graduated from the Las Vegas Academy of the Art’s Theatre program in 2022 and am proud to announce I will be attending Simon Fraser University abroad in the fall in Vancouver, Canada to study Business and Design with the help of the LinYL Memorial Scholarship.

Marie Fotso

High School: A-TECH

College: USC

Major: Business

Administration & Design

As a child of a single Cameroonian mother, I always treasured the effectiveness of a community. After 4 years of being pushed towards academic achievement in A-Tech, I’m working hard for my next chapter in life to be an active participant majoring in Computer Science and Global Studies at USC. I’m extremely thankful to LinYL for sharing that same compassion to give back! And as a message to all future high school graduates: don’t be discouraged by where you are today, no matter where you end up, your determination is what will set you up for life!
